Incorporated in July 1981, Preserve Our Wrecks, Kingston aims to further public knowledge and appreciation of Ontario's marine heritage working towards three principal objectives

Assisting museums and public archives in acquiring information and displaying artifacts pertaining to Ontario marine history

Undertaking public education projects, and

Surveying, documenting and encouraging the preservation of shipwrecks in Ontario's lakes as a resource of historical value to the public in the Province and Canada

History of the Organisation

POW Kingston was established by a dedicated group of early underwater explorers and historians. Their interest in researching the fate of the many local shipwrecks and their intrepid diving exploits led them to discover many of the vessels' resting places.  Recognizing the historical importance of the wrecks, the group acknowledged their duty to protect the legacy they represented. Their chosen outlet for much of their work became the Marine Museum of the Great Lakes, with which many of them served as founding directors.  Short features on some of these key personalities, the people who created and shaped our Organisation, will appear in our quarterly newsletter, which is available online.  Their contribution is remarkable - and many of them remain very active.
