Preserve Our Wrecks - Board of Directors 2009
President
Mike Hill begins a second year as POW's President. Mike retired from the British Army in 2005. He has been enjoying himself as a diving instructor in Kingston ever since, building on experience gained part-time in Virginia. He holds NAS Level One certification and has participated in surveys of the Twisted Sisters and, more locally, the Navy Bay Wreck off RMC. Other interests include sailing and photography.
Vice-President
Steve Chew originally hails from Toronto, but has lived in Kingston for many years. Part of the City's planning team, Steve has a keen feel for heritage and the environment. He holds NAS Level One certification and enjoys local diving enormously.
Secretary
Marg Barker brings great experience to POW from service with Save Ontario Shipwrecks, where she has held office and worked to great good effect for some time. Marg moved to Kingston from Ottawa within the last couple of years and has brought great energy and commitment to local activities. Marg has considerable avocational archaeological experience and will become a NAS trainer in Summer 2009, bringing even more qualifications to the table.
Treasurer
Dianne Groll was born and brought up in Kingston.
Since learning to dive a few years ago, Dianne has spend much time researching and visiting local wrecks. She holds NAS Level One certification and has worked on surveys for the last two years. She currently holds a licence to conduct a non-intrusive survey of an historic site in Kingston waters. As her photo shows, Dianne very much enjoys dive travel too and has experience of the waters off Honduras, the Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos.
Mooring Director
Harold Vandenberg has been involved in diving and chartering for many years and is a Kingston fixture. Less a charter captain than a charter admiral since he took ownership of several boats, he is POW's key figure on the mooring front, a critical constituent of our work. Harold is the go-to guy for anything to do with mooring or the maintenance of our buoys.
Director
Kevin LeBlanc is a serving member of the Canadian Forces based in Kingston.
He's one of the most active members of the Base Dive Club and highly committed to the work of POW. He brings welcome youth and energy to our activities and a gently irreverent outlook that's very refreshing.
