November 2009

It seems hardly possible that another season has passed so quickly.  It seems to emphasize what a short season it is we enjoy in Ontario.  That makes it all the more remarkable that we achieve so much each year at both the start and end of the mooring period.  All to say that, once again, Harold and a dedicated band of volunteers have completed the end-of-season tasks of recovering buoys, dropping lines and checking the sites we maintain a watch over.  In the weeks and months ahead a great deal of work will be done to prepare for next season.  This includes servicing buoys that may have sustained damage or suffered from wear and tear, repairing lines and tackle and generally keeping things in good order.  It's an effort that's easily overlooked - but everyone should appreciate the time and trouble that our mooring director and his helpers put into it.  If you think that you might be able to assist - and we're always looking for folks who are experienced in splicing marine rope and line - please get in touch with Harold at harold@kingstondivecharters.com

It's always worth repeating why we place buoys or markers on the various wreck sites we enjoy.  Mooring work is one of POW's core activities.  The placement of buoys encourages appropriate mooring at vulnerable wreck sites and reduces the risk of anchor damage and other unintended harm.  The presence of buoys that clearly advertise the actions of POW also serves an educational purpose.

If you'd like to adopt a buoy and have your business or other entity recognized on it get in touch with us using the 'Contact Us' page.
